A* to C grade A Level pass rates rise for full-time students by 3.6% at Cardiff and Vale College with 9.9% of all students achieving A* or A grades

Cardiff and Vale College, the College formed by the merger of Barry College and Coleg Glan Hafren  on 1st August, has seen another increase in pass rates and improved grades from full-time students studying A Levels, with 70% now getting grades A*-C (up by 3.6%). The Further Education College has also had its second batch of the new A* grades, with 7 being awarded this year. This year’s A Level students are also the second cohort to complete the new syllabus which was introduced in 2008.

Summary of Cardiff and Vale College’s achievements:

  • A Level A*-E grades for 97% of full-time A Level students
  • A Level A*-C grades for 70% of full-time A Level students
  • A Level A*-E grades for 92% of all candidates
  • A Level A*-C grades of 66% of all candidates
  • A*-E grades for 84% of part-time students
  • A*-C grades for 58% of part-time students
  • 12 out of 22 (A2 Level) subjects saw 100% of candidates achieving A*-E grades
  • 12 A* grades awarded
  • 71 Welsh Baccalaureate passes
  • 17 AS courses (FT&PT) with 100% pass rate 

 

Dr Barbara Prosser, Cardiff and Vale College’s Head of Faculty of Advanced Studies said, “The results this year are particularly pleasing with an increase in the pass rate for full time students to 70% of grades A*-C.   Students were also successful in gaining the A* grade including many part-time students studying A level in one year. 12 of all the A level subjects achieved 100% success, a figure which includes full and part-time students.  There were also more high grades with 9.9% of all students achieving an A or A*. We are extremely proud of our staff and students.”

Last year, there were 460 cross college applications sent to universities with 67% of applicants being placed. 71% of these were from the Faculty of Advanced Studies and 44% of these students were placed at local universities.

Cardiff and Vale College has an open morning from 10am to 1pm on Friday August 26th especially for year 11 pupils and their parents/guardians who have unexpected GCSE results. On Wednesday 31st August the College starts main enrolment for A Levels, for those already interviewed.
