BBC Radio 1Xtra team hold inspirational workshop at CAVC

DJ Charlie Sloth and a production team from BBC Radio 1Xtra came to Cardiff and Vale College this week to hold a workshop for students.

Charlie was joined by producer Dari Samuels, assistant producer Emma-Louise Amansha, BBC apprentice Kieran Soraghan and BBC Outreach Manager Deena Saeed. Charlie, Dari and Emma-Louise then held a special panel for the College’s Music Foundation Degree, Music and Music Technology students.

The session covered who does what at the digital radio station and what working life is like at 1Xtra. Charlie, Dari and Emma-Louise also discussed how they got their jobs and shows and the business of the music industry. They then gave the students advice on working in the media.

“Having the BBC 1Xtra team come and talk with us in Cardiff and Vale College was an eye-opening experience,” Alex Boswell, a Foundation Degree in Popular Music Technology, said. “It has inspired many of us music students to progress in our chosen career path thanks to the different perspectives, industry advice and work ethics discussed by the panel during their time with us.”
