Cardiff and Vale College commended for its Higher Education work
Cardiff and Vale College has been re-approved to continue offering its range of Higher Education (HE) courses for another five years and has been commended for the work it has done so far.
The University of Wales Newport, which works closely in partnership with the College, held a review of the College’s HE provision. Courses under scrutiny included the Foundation Degree for Learning Support Assistants, BA (Hons) Education, BE (Hons) Post-Compulsory Education and Training and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education run across College sites.
The review panel, made up from senior staff from the University of Wales Newport and external representatives from other universities, were impressed by the College’s HE team and highlighted a number of positive factors. These included the “excellent” community ethos and positive relationships in terms of professional and pastoral support for students, and the management’s support of the HE team.
CAVC’s strategic development in response to community needs and widening participation, and the College’s hard work to develop scholarly activity and Continuing Professional Development within the College were also praised. The review panel also commended the way the College builds strong partnerships in terms of collaborative work and links.
College Head of HE, Teaching & Learning Emil Evans said: “The commendations from UWN’s Review Panel are testament to the hard work, dedication, and vision of all involved with teaching, supporting and managing the College’s HE programmes.
“We have always strived to offer a HE learning experience at CAVC which matches that offered at the partner University and the Panel’s report demonstrates that we succeed in doing just that. It is really good news that the report recognises the good practice achieved in widening participation in HE and developing links with our communities, both key Welsh Government steers for further developing HE courses in FEIs.”
Cardiff and Vale College offers a range of teaching courses to help people progress, training them to teach in a college or university, via a work based learning provider or in the community. There are also courses for those who want to support teaching in schools or colleges.
The College’s HE course have strong partnership links with Welsh universities including the University of Wales Newport at a variety of levels from HNC right up to degree level.
