Cardiff and Vale College makes the shortlist for two prestigious Beacon Awards
Cardiff and Vale College has made it on to the shortlist for not one but two prestigious Further Education awards.
The Association of College’s Beacon Awards recognise colleges that have displayed imaginative and innovative approaches to reaching and learning in the FE sector. Now in their 23rd year, the Beacon Awards represent the best FE colleges across the UK that adapt to meet the needs of local employers and the career needs of their students.
Cardiff and Vale College is one of the few colleges in the country to make it on to the final shortlist for the Beacon Awards.
CAVC has been shortlisted for the Edge Award for Practical Teaching and Practical Learning. This award celebrates colleges that give their learners opportunities to tackle real life problems using the tools of their trade, demonstrate that students understand the benefits of the tasks they perform, and provide life changing opportunities plus the chance to work with industry experts.
The College has also made the shortlist for the Pearson Award for the Promotion and Delivery of Successful Apprenticeships. This award goes to the college that provides outstanding service to students and employers that meet their skills needs and engages employers in supporting the development of apprenticeships and traineeships where appropriate.
CAVC Principal Mike James said: “To make it on to the shortlist for two AoC Beacon Awards is in itself a reward for the dedication of everyone across the College. At CAVC we work hard to ensure our learners develop a wide range of skills that are meaningful both to them individually and to their potential employers. Being placed among the top colleges in the UK is a fitting tribute to the staff and learners of the College – I am immensely proud of everyone involved.”
The award winners will be announced at a special ceremony at the AoC’s Annual Conference in Birmingham on 16th November.
