Cardiff and Vale College nursery wins gold in the childcare Oscars
The Nursery at Cardiff and Vale College’s Trowbridge campus has won the highest quality award available to nurseries in the UK – and is the only nursery in the Cardiff area to have done so.
The Trowbridge Nursery and its Manager Kathy Picket have received national recognition for the quality of care that they offer to children. The Nursery has been given National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) e-Quality Counts accreditation at Level 3 – the highest level that the association awards.
e-Quality Counts is a national quality scheme designed to help a nursery explore all aspects of its care and education to ensure that it is delivering the best possible service for young children. Qualifying for e-QC takes two years and involves an audit of every aspect of a nursery’s work, involving the entire team, and creates a culture continuous improvement and commitment to team building.
“Completing National Day Nurseries Association’s e-Quality Counts is a fantastic achievement. This national accreditation demonstrates that the nursery is providing extremely high levels of care and education for children,” Stella Ziolkowski, NDNA’s Director of Quality and Workforce Development, said.
Sandra Welsby, NDNA Cymru’s National Development Manager, presented Trowbridge Nursery Manager Kathy Pickett with the award at a ceremony that was also attended by Cardiff Council CAVC Principal Mike James and Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning Julia Magill.
Sandra said: “I am delighted to be presenting the e-Quality Counts Level 3 award to Kathy and her hard working team. Gaining the award, especially at Level 3 is a massive achievement and reflects the nursery’s commitment to providing high quality childcare.
“As the first nursery in the Cardiff are to achieve this quality assurance award, Trowbridge is now a trailblazer for others in the area. All of us at NDNA Cymru would like to congratulate Kathy and all the staff at Cardiff and Vale College’s Trowbridge Nursery on their success.”
Councillor Julia Magill said: “This is the only nursery in the area that has gained this award. It’s very encouraging and I hope that other nurseries will take a lead from what has been achieved here and cover as many high quality bases.”
Paying tribute to the effort made by everyone who works at the Trowbridge Nursery, Manager Kathy Pickett said: “Achieving this award is a dream come true! It’s the highest accolade for us – I want to thank all of the team for all of their hard work and effort. We will continue to provide the highest quality childcare for our students, staff and all of our other service users.”
