Cardiff and Vale College Rugby Academy beats reigning champions Coleg y Cymoedd

Cardiff and Vale College’s Rugby Academy team has secured a 15-14 win over reigning champions Coleg y Cymoedd in the final round of qualification matches in the WRU Under 18 Midweek League.

Previously unbeaten in 28 games, Coleg y Cymoedd finished the first half 14-0 in the lead but the visitors from CAVC hit back in the second. Centre Dafydd Smith and replacement full back Tony Lamerton both scored tries, one of which was converted by outside half Ben Thomas, who also landed the last minute penalty which took the final score to 15-14.

CAVC Director of Rugby Martyn Fowler said: “The wins puts us ahead of year two in our five-year strategy and it’s particularly pleasing as Cymoedd have not lost a game in the league going back 28 matches to October 2012.

“For that length of time they have set the benchmark for us and everyone else in Wales, if not the UK. We now have to make results like this the norm and not the exception – and then we’ll be happy!”
