Cardiff and Vale College team are Vale Boccia champions

A team of Vocational Access students from Cardiff and Vale College have won the Vale of Glamorgan Adult Boccia Championships.

The Killers, made up of captain David Harrison from Cardiff, Matthew Pearce from Dinas Powys, Christopher Richardson from Barry, Abbie Bennett from Barry and Abbi Kenshole from Penarth, triumphed over all opposition in the three-month competition. Two other teams of five Vocational Access students each, the Boccia Breakers and the Wolf Fangs, also competed.

Boccia is a game similar to boule or petanque designed for athletes who might have disabilities that affect their motor skills. The local competition was organised by Vale of Glamorgan Council Disability Support Wales Development Officer Simon Jones and the finals were held at the Hen Goleg Resource Centre in Barry.

David Harrison, captain of The Killers, said: “I am very proud that we won the competition. Everyone was very competitive but we finally came out on top.”

A CAVC Vocational Access team, N Dubz, also won the championships last year.
