Cardiff and Vale College Rugby Academy players set to represent the Welsh Academicals
Two Cardiff and Vale College Rugby Academy players have been selected to represent the Welsh Academicals in their game against Llandovery this Wednesday (26th November).
Given the prestigious honour to play for the ‘Accies’, a WRU affiliated team where students have represented Wales in tournaments such as the Hong Kong 7s, Hooker Dan Watts and Wing three-quarter Mike Wallis will both make their debuts for the team.
CAVC Director of Rugby, Martyn Fowler, said;
“Gaining selection for the Welsh Academicals is a real honour for our players and it’s testament to the progression they have made since joining the CAVC Rugby Academy in September.
“The ‘Accies’ have a strong record of identifying emerging talent from college, university and community rugby and I’m confident that both Dan Watts and Mike Wallis are names that we’ll be hearing a lot more of in the future.”
Two other CAVC Academy players making names for themselves are Captain Joel Ringer and teammate Jacob Laroach who have both been chosen to be part of the Cardiff Blues U18s squad, and are set to play against their Newport Gwent Dragons and Neath Swansea Ospreys peers throughout the season.
Established this year and run in partnership with Cardiff Blues at the BT Cardiff Arms Park, the CAVC Rugby Academy has already seen a string of success with wins against Cowbridge Academy and Coleg Gwent.
And with Level 4 Coach and former Cardiff RFC and Cardiff University Director of Rugby, Martyn Fowler at the helm, the future of the academy is looking bright.
“Our young team have surprised everybody with their skills, tenacity and physicality this year but we were always confident that with the standard of players in the squad that we’d win games. The Academy provides a fantastic opportunity for potential professional rugby players to develop their academic and sporting excellence hand in hand.”
