CAVC students are IT skills winners

Two students from Cardiff and Vale College were among the winners in a UK-wide skills competition for aspiring IT technicians.

Alexandru Chites and James Holloway, both Year 1 Extended Diploma in IT students at CAVC, took part in the WorldSkills UK heats competition Microsoft IT Technician round. James, 17 and from Cardiff, came second and won the silver prize, while 24-year-old Alexandru who also lives in Cardiff won bronze having come third.

CAVC IT Lecturer and Training Manager Peter Franklin said: “This was a particularly tough round as the organisers changed the brief quite dramatically on the day and so put all the participants under extra pressure and testing their resourcefulness and flexibility.”

Previously, James won the bronze medal in the Skills Wales Microsoft IT Technician competition, which was hosted by CAVC.

Meanwhile, another CAVC Year 1 Extended Diploma in IT student, came in the final three of another WorldSkills UK heat. Jack Thomson, aged 20 and from Cardiff, obtained bronze in the Advanced Web Design round.
