Entrepreneurial ESOL students celebrate success at CAVC

A Further Education course which combines excellent business tuition with an internationally recognised English qualification has celebrated its third year of 100% pass rates.

Cardiff and Vale College’s BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business with IELTS is taught by ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) specialists who have knowledge and backgrounds in business.  In addition to achieving a recognised business qualification, the students also study towards the International English Language Testing System standard – a qualification that is known world-wide.

“If someone wants to take their first steps on a business pathway but feels that they still have ESOL needs then this course is ideal for them,” Course Tutor and Co-ordinator Chris Phillips-Amos said. “It’s suitable for anyone with an interest in business who has Level 2 English but thinks they still need ESOL support.”

Students from previous years have experienced a variety of progression routes, from moving into employment, mainstream Level 3 courses in Business & Administration, Access courses and the Adult Foundation course.

This year the students also managed to raise £100 for the British Heart Foundation as a result of an assignment based around personal selling.

"This is the best course I've done so far, I work in business so this helped me have a better understanding of different aspects of the business world,” Delwar Hussein said. “All the staff are very helpful and all the teachers have a kind, dedicated attitude towards the students. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone."

Winful Ezeadum said: This course has improved my knowledge and understanding of business and the law that is involved with today’s businesses. I personally learnt a lot on the course and I would recommend this course to anybody who wants to open a business in the future or who wants to work in business.  You can also improve your English with this course because an English course, called IELTS, is part of the course - which is good for people who want to further their education to university level. I hope everyone makes the most of this opportunity.”

Mbuguma Sowe added: “Joining the College was the best decision I have made to date.  I have improved my computer skills as well as my English grammar.  I have also learned a lot from the BTEC course which will help me to be able to proceed to mainstream courses.  I am grateful to all the BTEC tutors and the study centre staff for their help and support.”
