Five – Nil to CAVC football teams

Cardiff and Vale College’s first and second football teams have stormed unbeaten into the new academic year. They have played five, drawn none, lost none and won five, placing them well ahead of the competition.

Having shown great commitment to pre-season training, the College’s First Team has won its first three league fixtures scoring 15 goals and conceding just two goals and are currently at the top of the Welsh Colleges League. The second team has also won its first two matches against Cantonian High School.

The teams are part of the College’s Football Education Development Scheme (FEDS). They play in both the Cardiff and Vale and Welsh Colleges Leagues, and any sport student at the College can have a trial for the FEDS – and those who gain a place also take qualifications in football.

Sport and Fitness Lecturer James Young said: “The FEDS have put in the hard work in pre-season training and the results are already starting to show with the first team currently heading the Welsh Colleges League. We have 50 students participating although we would always welcome additional students from across all College sites to get involved to strengthen both the first and second team squads.

“We are looking forward to a very successful football season for our new College.”
