Hair and Beauty accolades for Cardiff and Vale College students

Cardiff and Vale College students are celebrating after scooping silver prizes in two prestigious national competitions.

Tracy Morgan, 35 and from Cardiff, came second in the Beauty Therapy Skills Wales competition hosted by Coleg Morgannwg. The Complementary Therapy student won her prize in the aromatherapy competition and will now go on to the World Skills UK competition for beauty therapy.

Nicole Peck, 19 and from Rhoose, also came second in the World Skills Wales All Wales finals, which was held at the Coleg Powys Brecon Campus. Nicole impressed judges with a Strictly Come Dancing themed hair up and a military precision cut and colour on a block.

Nicole will also go on to represent the College at the UK finals of World Skills. Skills Competition Wales are a new contest, organised by the Welsh Government in preparation for World Skills Wales – regional heats were held at the Academi, Cardiff and Vale College’s Barry-based training salon, where CAVC student Savanagh Feal came third.

CAVC Vale Head of Department for Hairdressing, Beauty and Complementary Therapies Ceri Evans said: “This is a wonderful achievement – Nicole and Tracy are a credit to the department and College. We are all extremely proud of them and wish them every success in the UK World Skills contest.”
