Team CAVC get into the running at Cardiff and Vale College Cardiff Bay Run
Team CAVC took part in the Cardiff and Vale College Cardiff Bay Run – 50 students and staff all took to their feet in the capital’s second largest running event.
Business Development Manager Luke ‘Quicksilver’ Davies was the fastest member of Team CAVC. He ran the 10k route in 36 minutes, a result that saw him in the top 50 of all of the 6,000 plus racers and 21st out of 783 men in his category.
The top Team CAVC men were Luke, Simon Marks and Max Weedon while to the top three Team CAVC women were Zoe Gay, Nia Evans and Charlotte Willis. The College was the title sponsor of the run.
A team within a team, a group of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students took part. Their tutor, Nia Evans, said: “This is my fastest ever 10k – I wanted to get under an hour and I have! I encouraged my students to take part and they all have loved it.”
Public Services Lecturer Tom Jones also ran the race. He said: “This is the first time I’ve run since 2009 – three years ago I was still in a wheelchair. Working for the College has got me back on my feet – literally. It gave me a sense of purpose and got me out of my chair.”
Runners flooded Cardiff Bay for the race that took in iconic landmarks such as the Norwegian Church and Barrage. Team CAVC were also on hand as volunteers during the event, handing out water and giving help and advice to anyone who was interested in coming to the College to improve their skills.
