ESOL Part-time Day

Courses start week beginning 11th September 2017.

These courses are offered during the day and in the evening at the following levels: Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 (advanced).  Students have the option of studying for 10 hours a week or 6 hours a week.  10-hour programmes take place over four days and 6-hour programmes take place over two or three days. 

These are general ESOL courses which focus on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar, vocabulary and cultural issues are also a very important part of these courses and students will be able to develop these areas and this will help to increase confidence when communicating with English speakers in different situations.

Learners at Entry 1 and above will work towards nationally recognised ESOL qualifications. Pre-entry learners will work towards Agored ESOL Steps qualifications. 

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%. Students whose attendance drops below 85% will be at risk of losing their places.

AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting Level 2Cardiff

The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting covers a range of foundation accounting and finance skills in five mandatory units (240 guided learning hours). The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that students are well prepared to progress into a business, finance or professional accountancy career or further education.

All of the units within the qualification are mandatory. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but this qualification also includes a synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification:

• Bookkeeping Controls
• Elements of Costing
• Using Accounting Software
• Work Effectively in Finance

A student completing this qualification will develop accountancy skills in double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing, as well as an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers. Students will learn to use accounting software and to develop the professional skills and behaviours needed to contribute effectively in the workplace. Working in accountancy requires good communication skills, IT skills and understanding of the business environment, all of which are included in the qualification.


The course is vocational and practical in nature and you will learn essential skills relevant to an accounting environment. Lectures are provided for each unit. Tutorial support is also provided.

The overall aim of this Introduction to Cabin Crew Level 2 course is to develop the personal and interpersonal skills necessary for success as a member of air cabin crew or airport personnel as airport check-in staff, and to prepare the student for career development.

 

The course covers the theoretical aspect of the industry, together with an emphasis on practical study to include role-play, simulations and observations. Students will be encouraged to develop research and study skills in preparation for cabin crew employment training.

 

Guest speakers direct from Industry carry out a number of seminars throughout the course and most learners gain employment upon completion of the course.

 

Classes can be  taught on our Boeing 737-200 Aircraft which is attached to the college, a real working environment !!

AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3Cardiff

The AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting covers a range of complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. Students will learn and master financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts, VAT issues in business, management accounting costing techniques and ethical practices for accountants. Ceramics - Foundation Degree Level 4+Barry

This part-time Foundation Degree in Ceramics aims to encourage your creative flair, while giving you the knowledge and skills required to be successful in the Ceramics industry.
 
Using a mix of lectures, seminars, technical workshops, demonstration and supervised studio activities, you will develop the technical skills used in the forming process such as throwing, plaster forming and hand building. Contemporary Textile Practice - Foundation Degree Level 4+Barry

This Diploma in Professional Marketing is a one year course (or approximately 12 weeks per module) which runs from September to June, Monday 5.45-8.45pm.  This is a high level professional qualification aimed at practising marketing professionals.  The course will build upon the knowledge gained through work and previous qualifications such as the CIM Certificate of Professional Marketing or a Bachelor's degree.  Through this course you will study:

•Strategic Marketing
•Marketing Metrics
•Digital Strategy

Each module can be taken as a stand-alone qualification which will gain a module award.  The Diploma in Professional Marketing is awarded on successful completion of the three modules.   Lectures and tutorial support are provided for all modules. Each module comprises six key learning outcomes and assessment is a through a mix of exam, assignment and portfolio.

CILEx Graduate Fast Track Diploma - Level 6 Level 4+Cardiff

This CILEx Fast Track Diploma course enables Law Graduates to become qualified lawyers as Chartered Legal Executives. 


You may then go on to become partners in law firms, qualify as Solicitors (without having to undertake a two-year training contract) and also apply for judicial appointments.
To qualify graduates must complete the Graduate Fast Track Diploma and three years of qualifying employment (work of a legal nature supervised by a Solicitor, Legal Executive or Licensed Conveyancer), one year of which must be after completing the Diploma.


The Graduate Fast Track Diploma consists of one Professional Skills unit, assessed by coursework, and two areas of Legal Practice, assessed by exams.  This can be done in one year over two evenings a week, or over several years of studying one evening a week, to suit your commitments and goals.  All areas of Legal Practice are offered in a two year rotation, except Civil Litigation and the professional skills unit, which are available every year.


The academic sessions run from October to May and examinations are in June.

CILEx Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice - Level 6 Level 4+Cardiff

Course start date: 28th September 2017

The Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice is the second stage of training to become a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer and is set and assessed at honours degree level.  To achieve the Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice and progress to become a Graduate Member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, you must achieve one level 6 legal practice unit, three level 6 law units and both the professional skills units.  One law unit must be in an area of law which underpins the practice area taken.  Students can take any number of units over any amount of time to complete the Diploma.


Each level 6 unit can be studied individually and each also lead to nationally recognised qualifications, except from the two skills units that must both be completed to achieve a qualification. 
The academic sessions run from October to May and examinations are in June 2018.

Connect 2 CAVC Entry LevelPartner

This Connect 2 CAVC course is offered by our Community Outreach Team at Butetown Youth Pavillion on Dumballs Road.

Entry to the course is through the engagement course Countdown to Connect.

Learners can enrol on Countdown at any time of the year and progress to Connect at four entry points. The next entry is 14th October 2013. Following that, there will be another entry from 13th January 2014.

ESOL in the Community

These courses are offered during the day at the following levels:  Pre-entry Level, Entry Level 1 and Entry Level 2.   Students study for 6 hours a week over two or three days. 

These are general ESOL courses which focus on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar, vocabulary and cultural issues are also a very important part of these courses and students will be able to develop these areas and this will help to increase confidence when communicating with English speakers in different situations.

ESOL for Pregnancy PT Entry Entry LevelPartner

Having a baby can be a frightening experience for many women and even more so if you are doing this in a country where you don’t speak the language fluently.  Therefore this course is aimed at women who are expecting a baby and whose first language is not English.  It is suitable for all levels as the aim of the course is to support expectant Mums by helping them to develop the language that they might need when attending hospital appointments, antenatal classes, when in labour and after the birth of their child.  As well as developing language skills, this course also provides Mums-to-be with an opportunity to meet other women who are in the same position.

The courses take place on a Friday morning and runs over six weeks. Women are able to enrol at any stage of their pregnancy.
