ESOL in the Community

These courses are offered during the day at the following levels:  Pre-entry Level, Entry Level 1 and Entry Level 2.   Students study for 6 hours a week over two or three days. 

These are general ESOL courses which focus on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar, vocabulary and cultural issues are also a very important part of these courses and students will be able to develop these areas and this will help to increase confidence when communicating with English speakers in different situations.

ESOL + Construction and Plumbing Entry LevelCardiff

This Entry 3 level course takes place over four days and students attend for 16 hours a week. Lessons take place at our CCTC, Dumballs Road site.

The ESOL element of the courses focusses on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar and specialist vocabulary related to construction are also a very important part of this course and students will be able to develop these areas which will support them with the Construction component of the course.

The Construction element of the course follows a modular training programme and includes the following: Health & Safety; Working & Communicating in Construction Trades; Carpentry; Plastering; Brickwork; Tiling; and Painting & Decorating. These practical sessions take place in fully resourced workshops so students will become familiar with working within a construction environment. This course forms the basis of the knowledge required for progression onto higher level Diploma Level 1 Construction course.

The course will prepare leaners for nationally recognised qualifications in both ESOL and Construction. Students will also do Numeracy as part of the programme and this will also lead to a recognised qualification.

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%. Students whose attendance drops below 90% will be at risk of losing their places.

ESOL + Business Administration Level 1Cardiff

This level 1 course takes place over five days and students attend for 16 hours a week.  Most of the lessons will take place at the 27 The Parade site, however students will also be expected to attend some sessions at the Canal Parade site in Dumballs Road. 

The ESOL element of the courses focusses on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar and specialist vocabulary related to business administration are also a very important part of this course and students will be able to develop these areas which will help to support them with the Business Administration component of the course. 

The Business Administration element of the course follows a modular training programme and focusses on areas such as enterprise, finance, brandingm sales, and so on.  It also provides and insight into office working practices and students will have the opportunity to work and stuy in the College's Executive Training Suite for part of their course.  This course forms the basis of the knowledge required for progression onto higher level courses and also helps to develop the practical skills that are needed for working in an office environment.

The course will prepare learners for nationally recognised qualifications in both ESOL And Business Administration.  Students will also do Numeracy as part of the programme and this will also lead to a recognised qualification.

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%. Students whose attendance drops below 90% will be at risk of losing their places.

ESOL + Hairdressing & Customer Service Level 1Cardiff

This level 1 course takes place over five days and students attend for 16 hours a week.  Most lessons take place at 27 The Parade site, but students will also be expected to attend some lessons at the Canal Parade site in Dumballs Road. 

The ESOL element of the courses focuses on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar and specialist vocabulary related to hair and beauty are also a very important part of this course and students will be able to develop these areas which will support them with the Hair & Beauty component of the course.

The Hair & Beauty unit of the course will help you to develop the creative skill of using both hairdressing and beauty techniques to create an image based on a theme. You will research media images, plan and develop your ideas to create a mood board which you will then present to others. You will then re-create the image you have developed using technical hair and beauty skills. You will base your image on a theme and present your image to an invited audience. Some of these sessions will take place in the College’s fully resourced hair & beauty salons so students will become familiar with working within these environments. This course forms the basis of the knowledge required for progression onto a level 2 Hair or Beauty course.

The course will prepare leaners for nationally recognised qualifications in both ESOL and Hair & Beauty.  Students will also do Numeracy as part of the programme and this will also lead to a recognised qualification.

ESOL + Health & Social Care/Childcare Level 1Cardiff

ESOL Health & Social Care/Childcare Level 1

This level 1course takes place over five days and students attend for 16 hours a week.  Lessons take place at our site at 27 the Parade. 

The ESOL element of the courses focuses on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar and specialist vocabulary related to Health & Social Care/Childcare are also a very important part of this course and students will be able to develop these areas which will support them with the Health & Social Care/Childcare component of the course.

The Childcare component of the course focuses on an introduction to creative activities for children’s development and the Health & Social Care element will help to prepare you for work in a health care environment.  These modules of the course are delivered by subject specialists who have first-hand experience of working within Health & Social Care/Childcare profession.  This course prepares learners of the level 2 ESOL Health & Social Care/Childcare course.

The course will prepare learners for nationally recognised qualifications in both ESOL and Health & Social Care/Childcare.  Students will also do Numeracy as part of the programme and this will also lead to a recognised qualification. 

Students who enroll on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%. Students whose attendance drops below 90% will be at risk of losing their places.

ESOL + Hospitality and Catering Level 1Cardiff

This level 1 course takes place over five days and students attend for 16 hours per week.  Most of the lessons will tale place at our Parade site, however, students will also be expected to attend some sessions at the Canal Parade site in Dumballs Road.

The ESOL element of the courses focuses on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.  Grammar and specialist vocabulary related to catering are also a very important part of this course and students will be able to develop these areas which will help to support then with the Hospitality and Catering component of the course.

This NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Food Preparation & Cooking is for the more practical learner and will provide you with a very good insight into the catering industry.  Learners will have an opportunity to work in the College kitchens at our new Campus.  The course will deliver the basic skills of professional cookery within the catering industry and these include literacy and numeracy which form the basis for a check when following recipes and taking orders.  You will also work on personal and social skills throughout the year.

The course will prepare learners for nationally recognised qualifications in both ESOL and Hospitality and Catering.  Students will also do Numeracy as part of the programme and this will lead to a recognised qualification.

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%  Students whose attendance drops below 90% will be at risk of losing their places.

ESOL - 16 hours - Entry 1 to Level 2 Entry LevelLevel 1Level 1Cardiff

ESOL 16 hours

These courses are offered at the following levels:  Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2.  Courses take place over five days and students attend for 16 hours a week.

These are general ESOL courses which focus on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar, vocabulary and cultural issues are also a very important part of these courses and students will be able to develop these areas and this will help to increase confidence when communicating with English speakers in different situations. The course will prepare leaners for the nationally recognised Trinity Skills for Life exam.

In addition to the ESOL part of the course, students on courses at Entry Level 2 and above will also do Numeracy as part of the programme.  This is a compulsory part of the course and will lead to a recognised qualification. 

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%. Students whose attendance drops below 90% will be at risk of losing their places.

ESOL + Health & Social Care/Childcare Level 2Cardiff

This level 2 course takes place over five days and students attend for 16 hours a week.  Lessons take place at our site at 27 the Parade. 

The ESOL element of the courses focusses on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar and specialist vocabulary related to health & social care/childcare are also a very important part of this course and students will be able to develop these areas which will support them with the Health & Social Care/Childcare component of the course.

The Childcare component of the course focusses on working with babies and the Health & Social Care element looks at human development from birth to older adult.  These modules of the course are delivered by subject specialists who have first-hand experience of working within Health & Social Care/Childcare profession.  This course prepares learners for a range of higher level qualification including Adult Foundation, Health & Social Care level 2 & level 3, or QCF Diploma.

The course will prepare learners for nationally recognised qualifications in both ESOL and Health & Social Care/Childcare.  Students will also do Numeracy as part of the programme and this will also lead to a recognised qualification. 

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%. Students whose attendance drops below 90% will be at risk of losing their places.

ESOL + IT Level 2 Level 2Cardiff

This Level 2 course takes place over five days and students attend for 16 hours a week.  Most od the lessons will tale place at the 27 The Parade site, however students may also be expected to attend some sessions at the Canal Parade site in Dumballs Road.

The ESOL element of the course focuses on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.  Grammar and specialist vocabulary related to IT are also a very important part of this course and students will be able to develop these areas which will help to support them with the IT component of the course.

The IT element of the course focusses on Improving Productivity Using IT and includes optional units such as Desktop Publishing, Presentation, Spreadsheet, Word Processing and Interet Safety.  It forms the basis of the knowledge required to progress onto higher level courses.  It also help develp your practical skills and aims to prepare you for employment.

This course will prepare learners for nationally recognised qualifications in both ESOL and IT.  Students will also do Numeracy as part of the programme and this will also lead to a recognised qualification.

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%.  Students whose attendance drops below 90% will be at risk of loosing their places.

Part Time

ESOL Part-time Day

Courses start week beginning 11th September 2017.

These courses are offered during the day and in the evening at the following levels: Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 (advanced).  Students have the option of studying for 10 hours a week or 6 hours a week.  10-hour programmes take place over four days and 6-hour programmes take place over two or three days. 

These are general ESOL courses which focus on the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Grammar, vocabulary and cultural issues are also a very important part of these courses and students will be able to develop these areas and this will help to increase confidence when communicating with English speakers in different situations.

Learners at Entry 1 and above will work towards nationally recognised ESOL qualifications. Pre-entry learners will work towards Agored ESOL Steps qualifications. 

Students who enrol on these courses need to be fully committed as we expect an attendance rate of 100%. Students whose attendance drops below 85% will be at risk of losing their places.
