Access to Health Sciences Level 3Barry

The Access to Health Sciences is an intensive, one-year course that will prepare you for university study of the health sciences.  

Major subject areas that will be covered include: Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry and Psychology. All students are also required to study Numeracy, Communications and Study Skills as mandatory core subjects. Weekly personal tutorials are held to support you through your studies.

Nursing & Midwifery - Access to HE Level 3Barry

The Access to Nursing and Midwifery course is designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to progress into higher education.

This is an intensive course so you must be certain you are ready for both the academic demands and the workload of the course. On successfully completing the course you will achieve the Access to HE Diploma qualification. This is a nationally recognised qualification that is accepted for entry into Higher Education courses.

Note: Learners studying Childcare or Health & Social Care courses should be aware that it is a requirement of the course that all learners working with Children or in a Care setting have to have a full enhanced disclosure check (DBS).

Care Studies - Foundation Degree Level 4+Cardiff

The course would have a broad appeal to those students who want a career within the Social Care sector. This encompasses working with young children/people and also with the elderly.

In studying the Foundation Degree, students have the opportunity of gaining valuable experience and insight into the field of Social Care while also achieving a higher level qualification.

The Foundation Degree will equip learners for employment by developing their understanding of care policy, client psychology and their skills including reflective practice. It also offers them a progression route to top up their qualification to a full honours degree.

Youth & Social Care - Foundation Degree Level 4+Cardiff

The FdA in Youth and Social Care has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the youth and social care sector. It is an integrated course that combines the theoretical concepts that relate to young people,supporting them in a variety of organisations to develop their skills and independence whilst working within the broader social care sector.  This includes residential care settings, homeless hostels, supported lodgings for young people, youth offending programs.  

Students will develop a flexible and reflective approach to professional practice founded on the principles and ethos of working with young people within a social care setting.  They will develop an increased awareness of the different roles and functions of statutory, voluntary and third sector organisations and the different constraints within the current policy context.  This programme involves placement opportunities for students within a range of organisations that reside within the youth and care sector which will help to broaden horizons and develop a critical understanding of the roles and responsibilities organisations play to deliver positive outcomes for young people and other service users within the social care sector.
